The Weirdest Piercing Ever

Call EMERGENCY ...

Drought in northern Mali

Indeed, last season rainfall was very poor in the region of Kidal in northern Mali and in general. The consequences could be severe for pastoralists who become very vulnerable when they lose their "capital stock". Currently, all the area the animals are sick and dying each day the wadis bare (no biomass) are littered with corpses (loss now estimated at over 40% at four months of the rainy season in normal circumstances). And some herder families who lost their animals begin to reach the villages now become true "parks of misery."

• On the market (Kidal, Adjelhoc, Tessalit), livestock prices, for those who can still sell have dropped considerably from instance to sheep of 30,000 FCFA (46 €) in late winter to 5,000 CFA francs (8 €) today.

• As an emergency measure, the state makes available to municipalities in the region of Kidal nearly 1,000 tons of animal feed. They must buy and transport the goods from Gao, at their own expense and sell animal feed to farmers. As an indication of the purchase price of a bag of 50 kg is 6,000 FCFA (9 €). It should be noted that given the low incomes of farmers, they are financially unable to access this vital commodity to save what can be.

• The current drought is rife with insecurity and fund technical and financial partners can not even move, assess the situation on the ground of "creepy drama." However, the alternative to this level is the involvement and empowerment of local NGOs in synergy with the local authorities responsible for implementation of possible actions towards people.

Testimony Abinadje Abdallah Ag, Senator and Mayor of the municipality of Adjelhoc, 8th Region, northern Mali (Mail of March 8, 2010 at NGO Solidarity Africa):

"Drought is and ranchers suffer its consequences and is generally not common in the 8th region is spared. Nomadism is impossible for breeders, even around Gao. The few that exist are pasture behind the Niger River. The most difficult times lie ahead: April, May, June ... if it rains in July! The animals are now unsaleable because of their poor quality example of today, it takes 3 sheep to pay for a bag of rice of 50 kg. 1000 tons of animal feed are announced by the government for the region of Kidal and are already beginning to arrive, but not at the town because it is not expected because there is no subsidy for it ... contacts are in progress ... hope ... we are afraid of a major crisis without the slightest help .

It is imperative to react quickly.

ETAR made an emergency appeal to raise funds to support the Hall Adjelhoc in its action and help deliver the food to livestock Gao Adjelhoc.

It is our absolute duty of solidarity that to answer the call when disaster Abinadje climate dictates its law. Thank you in advance for your trust and solidarity.
